Perimenopause & Menopause: Coming Into Your Wisdom
Something is shifting. Maybe it's your sleep, your patience, your memory, or your tolerance for things you used to just push through without a second thought. Maybe you're quicker to tears, or quicker to anger, and for the first time in a long time, you're less interested in getting through it quietly.
If you're in perimenopause or menopause, you already know this isn't only a hormone story. It's showing up in your mood, your relationships, your sense of who you are, and your patience for the people-pleasing you've been carrying for decades. This is where I bring perimenopause and menopause therapy in Edmonton together with everything else I already do around identity, boundaries, and burnout via my clinical training and my own lived experience of this transition.
This Isn't a Loss. It's a Threshold.
Perimenopause and menopause are a threshold, a liminal space between who you've been performing yourself to be and who you actually are underneath all of that. Many wisdom traditions honour the passage from Mother into Wise Woman rather than hiding it. I want to bring that same respect into how we work with it here, alongside the very real mood swings, brain fog, and grief that can come with it.
What This Season Can Bring Up
• Mood swings that feel bigger than you expect, including anger you're not used to expressing out loud
• Memory lapses and brain fog that make you question your own competence
• Sleep that no longer cooperates with you
• A shortening fuse for roles, relationships, or expectations that no longer fit
• Grief for a version of yourself, or a chapter of your life, that's ending
• A pull toward reclaiming the time, energy, and voice you've spent decades giving to everyone else
How I Work With This
What I offer is support for the psychological, relational, spiritual and identity dimensions of this transition, the part no hormone panel can measure.
My approach draws on Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR and parts work (EGO state and Internal Family Systems informed, held within a trauma-informed, somatic/nervous system aware, integrative model.
Who This Work Is For
This tends to resonate most with women who have spent years being the one everyone else leans on, whether that's showing up for you in your late 30s or your 60s. If perimenopause arrived earlier than you expected, later, or differently than what you've read about, that's still relevant. Y
A Word on What This Isn't
This isn't necessarily about “fixing” yourself. This is about coming home to your true nature.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is perimenopause therapy and how is it different from regular therapy?
It's therapy that's informed by what's actually happening in your body and nervous system during this transition, not just your thoughts and behaviours in isolation. We work with the identity shifts, mood changes, and relationship strain that often show up alongside perimenopause, using the same trauma-informed tools I use in the rest of my practice.
Do I need a perimenopause or menopause diagnosis to work with you?
No. You don't need a confirmed hormonal stage or a formal diagnosis to benefit from this work. If something is shifting in your mood, your sleep, your sense of self, or your tolerance for things that used to feel manageable, that's reason enough to reach out.
I'm in my late 30s or early 40s, is this relevant for me? What if I'm older?
Perimenopause can begin earlier than most people expect, sometimes in the late 30s, and this work is just as relevant for women well into their 60s navigating post-menopause identity and life transitions. If it resonates, it's relevant, regardless of your exact age or stage.
Is this therapy available in Edmonton, or do you offer virtual sessions?
Both. I see clients in person at my office in Edmonton, Alberta, and I offer virtual sessions throughout the province. If you're in Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, or anywhere else in Alberta, you can access this support from wherever you're most comfortable.
What therapeutic approaches do you use for perimenopause and midlife support?
I draw on EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and parts work, all held within a trauma-informed, integrative framework. The approach works with the whole of your experience, not just the symptoms you'd list off in a doctor's appointment.
